For those trying to hard reset and factory reset their Peloton Bike, tread and struggling. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps for resetting your Peloton.
Why should you reset your Peloton?
- Buffering Issues
- Bluetooth Synchronization Issues
- No command error
- Peloton not turning on
- No metrics on the original bike,
- Heart rate monitor, Bluetooth headphones or Apple Watch not connecting
- Ride resistance and cadence not showing up on the tablet
- Wi-Fi streaming issues.
- If you suddenly loose HR or Bluetooth audio in the middle of a ride.
How to Peloton TABLET HARD RESET?
- On the tablet hold the POWER BUTTON on the back down for about 10 seconds until the screen goes blank (on newer tablets (Gen 3 or 4) may take up to 15 seconds). Keep holding until the Peloton logo appears then let go.
- Ignore the question about powering down the tablet- keep holding. The tablet will automatically reboot and reset all the hardware chips. A full reboot takes about 40 seconds to get you back into your profile. This is useful for QUICKLY fixing hardware issues in the middle of a ride so you can get back in quickly to rejoin your ride in progress.
If your bike is new and if your cadence and resistance only show 0 on the bottom of the tablet, see the section titled Resistance and Cadence are always Zero (0) below.
If the HRM problem continues, disconnect the bike power brick from the wall for at least 60 seconds to discharge the capacitors in the power brick. Plug back in and try again.
FACTORY WIPE FOR BIKE+, TREAD and ORIGINAL BIKE TABLET
When the cache clearing and tablet hard reset don’t fix your problem, the best method to reset the Android tablet and start with a fresh software load is to perform a factory wipe. Just like when you first got your bike or Tread.
The factory wipe is slightly different for the Original Bike and the newer Bike+ and Tread. The reset takes less than 5 minutes.
[Note: Make sure you have the original email address, password of the person who the subscription was purchased under and your WiFi password. With this information in hand follow these simple instructions.]BIKE Plus and Tread FACTORY WIPE FROM OS
- Log into your account on the bike. (The procedures below may vary based on tablet version)
- TOUCH the three dots on the bottom right of the tablet. Or SETTINGS on the top right.
- SELECT Device Settings
- SELECT Personal – Backup & Reset
- SELECT Factory Data Reset – Erases all data on tablet.
- CONFIRM the tablet reset which will take about 3 minutes.
The bike/Tread will automatically restart and you’ll need to connect to Wi-Fi again (make sure you you’re your password) or disable Wi-Fi and enable Ethernet (for hard-wired). The bike will then download the latest Peloton software for the bike. Then walk through the initial setup of your local time zone and the email and password of the purchaser. The bike/Tread will ask you to confirm all the details and your profile and details will all be downloaded from the cloud. Additional ID’s of users of the bike will also be reloaded onto the tablet. You can skip by all the “Intro to Peloton” videos at this point. You may need to re-enter your Facebook, FitBit and Strava ID’s and passwords as those are NOT stored in the Peloton cloud. You may also have to re-pair your Bluetooth headphones.
Note: Not all problems are resolved with the embedded OS option, so I always recommend performing a factory wipe with the method below. I have found problems only fixed by using either of the below:
